Ever wondered what that feeling of calm looks like?
Ever been so overwhelmed calm feels so far away.
Being able to connect with our dreams and desires requires a sense of calm, opportunities to connect inwards and work on the steps towards our dreams.
On today's blog I spoke with Rachel Slyfield, Rachel helps SEN mums escape and unwind.
This is what Rachel had to share about visualising that calm feeling.
When you think of calm what do you see?
A blue haze?
Gentle music?
Or do you struggle to find this?
So often we are told to “just imagine” a calm place but it's not as easy as it sounds!
I for one can struggle to imagine things like this but with practice it gets easier.
One way I use is to journal my thoughts about what calm means to me, as it's different for
everyone. Really focus on all the little details the colours you imagine, the mood and of
course the landscape. This can be a calming exercise in itself!
If you struggle with this just focus on one aspect at a time. Which colours depict a calm
environment for you?
Then do the exercise bit by bit, how does it feel when you think of the colour blue etc
I try and do this exercise when I'm feeling overwhelmed as it gives me some head space
and clarity. It can also ground you if you're feeling all the emotions and need to “get out of
your head”.
I won't lie, it's not easy but as with anything it gets easier the more you do it.
Often things like this come to me when I'm taking some time out; voice to text notes are your
friend with this! I open up the notes on my phone and talk about what's come up for me. This
is then out of my head and ready for me to look at when I can.
Once I realised this it's been an absolute game changer!
Of course there are so many different ways of visualising calm whether you do it in your
business to be more productive or as a mindful exercise to wind down. This is what I love
about these practices, you can personalise and tailor to whatever feels right for you.
We live in such a busy fast paced world that it's easy to get caught up in it and lose sight of
ourselves. Visualising calm can really help to slow everything down and put it all into
perspective.
At what cost are you ignoring these calm moments? Have you been feeling more stressed
recently?
Journal on these prompts for five minutes everyday and note how you feel before and after.
Our brains don't know the difference between actual events and what we tell ourselves;
choose to tell yourself you're calm today and let me know what happens!
